Jen's words before she headed off on a trip around the world:
I have spent the last 3 months living in Southern California, with my husband and my 2 and 4 year old daughters, which has truly been a dream. We were gifted an amazing opportunity with my husband's job for him to take a sabbatical for 7 months. We decided when the chance came, that we would take it. I was growing my online business, our children were still young and not yet in school, and we wanted to take advantage of such a great time.
We decided to sell our wonderful home in LaSalle, Ontario, Canada and downsize our life. We moved into a condo in glorious old Walkerville and we sold one of our cars. We let go of many of our physical belongings and just kept what we truly needed. A beautiful lightness and happiness ensued.
We decided to drive down here from Windsor, crossing into the USA at Detroit, Michigan and start our 8 day journey exploring and making our way down to the LA area. We drove through Iowa and Nebraska, then made our way to Laramie, Wyoming to visit a longtime friend and head men's basketball coach of the Cowboys, Larry Shyatt. What a wonderful, beautiful visit we had and then continued on to Salt Lake City, Utah. None of these places I had ever been to before and they were wonderful to see. Salt Lake City was gorgeous and we enjoyed a couple of days there. We then went on to visit the Grand Canyon by train and then continued on our drive through Mount Zion National Park and on to Santa Monica, California. All was truly a sight to see and it was so enjoyable being altogether in the car for 8 days without my hubby travelling for work as he does so often. All of our travel photos can be seen on Instagram @theoliverstravel
While here in California for 3 months, we have lived in Santa Monica and Palm Springs. Both beautiful, warm and sunny every day. We have been able to travel to many of the beaches and cities of LA, Anaheim to take the girls to Disneyland as well as San Diego, San Fransisco and also a couple of trips back to Canada, both Toronto and Vancouver. We are so fortunate to be able to travel as we do. All four of us have a passion for travel and we just love exploring new places.
Now there are just less than two weeks before we embark upon our greatest journey yet...around the world!
We leave LA in 10 days to go to Hawaii, then Fiji, then Australia for Christmas. We are spending a week around New Year's Eve in Sydney, Australia to celebrate the ringing in of 2016. We then go on up the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast for 2 weeks followed by 2 weeks in New Zealand exploring the South and North Islands. From there we head to Hong Kong for Chinese New Year, where my parents have moved for 2 years for work opportunities. We look forward to exploring Hong Kong before we head to Dubai, with a stop over in India to see the Taj Mahal and other sites in the area. We will be following up that with about 6 weeks in Europe exploring the South of France, Portugal, Spain, Italy and potentially many other destinations - we have as yet to plan the details of that.
We are very excited to see where the journey takes us in terms of growth in all areas of our lives. We are both growing thriving online business at the same time as we travel and we have taken on the role as digital nomads. Where there is wifi, we can choose to work. Where there is not, we can explore, create, play, live, learn, and enjoy our 4 months together as a family. We are so open and curious about what lies ahead. We will approach it all with a blank slate and fill it up as we see fit. For us, for our girls, for our lives.
I look forward to sharing more of our journey here on this blog.
Until next time,
Peace and Love,
